Wonder Tactics Power Up Hero Guide and Tips

Powering up your hero will cost you a lot of gold and other heroes (fodder). The cost of the power up upgrade depends on the stage of the power up and the tier of the heroes (stars).

Reason for power up:

  • Strengthen your hero
  • Create higher tier/stars heroes by combining two of +5 heroes.

Things you need to know about power up:

  • Each power up boost about 10% of the base status, so +5 hero have about 50% higher attribute than un-powered hero
  • Only HP, ATK, and Def those are boosted during the power up. Speed, Critical Rate, etc are not boosted.

Wonder Tactics Power up Successful

The success rate of the power-up process depends on the star difference. See the table below for the info.

Star difference Success rate fail boost
0 100% 0
1 50% 13%
2 25% 6%
3 10% 5%
4 5% 1%
5 0% 0%

Example: if you try to power-up 4 star hero with another 4 star, then it’s 100% success rate because there is no star difference. However, if you try to power up 4 star heroes using 1 star heroes, then the success rate is only 10% (3 star difference).

Note: Estimated cost on the table below are simply my estimation (lol). I simply multiply one upgrade cost by 4 times (if 25%) or 10 (if 10%). The actual cost maybe more or less than which written on the table below.

1 star heroes

You really don’t want to power up the one star heroes. Yes, the cost is small and it always has 100% chance, but you really don’t want to sacrifice 12 1 star heroes to create 2 star heroes (you also need to train 2 of them to lvl 30), because they’re weak and 2 star heroes are also easy to get. You won’t use 1 star heroes on your adventure, because they’re too weak.

2 star heroes

On the beginning (normal difficulty), your party will have these 2 star heroes. Power up them to create stronger 3 star heroes. Once you obtain 1000 Crystals for the first time, use the crystals immediately to buy 10+1 Luxury heroes package on the shop.  After you have done that, you don’t need to power up these 2 star heroes anymore. because it’s a waste of gold.

Wonder Tactics Bonus Monsters create 3 star

Note: You can still power up the bonus monster, because you don’t need to level up them. They also already have upgraded point (+ 2 or +3) when you get them. Combine them to create another 3 stars heroes or create a “food” for you 5 star heroes.

Upgrade Cost/try Est. Cost (25%) Est. Cost (10%)
0 to 1 200 800 2000
1 to 2 325 1300 3250
2 to 3 550 2200 5500
3 to 4 875 3500 8750
4 to 5 1300 5200 13000
Total 13000 32500

3 star heroes

Only power up these heroes using 1 star heroes. Trust me that 25% chance is huge. If you still want to use 2 star heroes to power up 3 star heroes, then do it on +3 or +4 stage when the Gold cost is higher.

Upgrade Cost/try Est. Cost (25%) Est. Cost (10%)
0 to 1 400 1600 4000
1 to 2 675 2700 6750
2 to 3 1100 4400 11000
3 to 4 1675 6700 16750
4 to 5 2400 9600 24000
Total 25000 62500

4 star heroes

Wonder Tactics 4 stars Fire elemental

Now it’s time to use 2 star heroes to upgrade these heroes. You get 25% chance when using 2 star heroes, one star heroes are simply not worth the cost. You can get many 2 star heroes from the hard difficulty, exchange your social points. On this phase, you don’t need to be hurry to get 5 star heroes, because many 4 star heroes are very good and you need to remember that (+5) 4 star hero’s strength is same as (+1) 5 star heroes. So, unless all your 4 heroes are suck, then better to gather 3 star heroes for the “food” later.

Upgrade Cost/try Est. Cost (25%) Est. Cost (10%)
0 to 1 800 3200 8000
1 to 2 1375 5500 13750
2 to 3 2150 8600 21500
3 to 4 3125 12500 31250
4 to 5 4300 17200 43000
Total 47000 117500

5 star heroes

On this phase, you should have many 3 star heroes (from those luxury draws, etc). You don’t need to create more 4 star heroes for a while once you have a solid 4 star heroes, save all 3 star heroes for power up these 5 star heroes.

Upgrade Cost/try Est. Cost (25%) Est. Cost (10%)
0 to 1 1600 6400 16000
1 to 2 2775 11100 27750
2 to 3 4200 16800 42000
3 to 4 5875 23500 58750
4 to 5 7800 31200 78000
Total 89000 222500

6 star heroes

On this phase you need to use at least 4 stars heroes, combine those 3 stars heroes into 4 stars to make the food, hopefully you get another good 4 star heroes on the process (or event a legendary). The cost is really expensive (as you can see on the table below).

Upgrade Cost/try Est. Cost (25%) Est. Cost (10%)
0 to 1 3200 12800 32000
1 to 2 5575 22300 55750
2 to 3 8250 33000 82500
3 to 4 11225 44900 112250
4 to 5 14500 58000 145000
Total 171,000 427,500

The steps of power up your 6 star heroes are like:

  1. Buy the Luxury Package (11 heroes), I assume you get 2 of 4 star heroes (1 from luxury pack and one from prime hero scroll). Now you have two 4 stars heroes as a food
  2. Train all those 3 stars heroes to level 30, this process will give you about 99 crystals.
  3. Power up and fuse those heroes to become 4 stars.
  4. There are many 4 stars heroes which are really useful and worth to become 6 stars, that’s why I suggest you to choose this route instead of use 3 stars heroes as a food. You may even get lucky obtaining legendary while evolving those 3 stars heroes (legendary heroes start from 4 stars and then you need to do a fixed evolution on them, visit THIS PAGE for fixed/random evolution guide).
Wonder Tactics dont keep useless 6 stars

Power up 6 stars heroes are really hard in terms of gold and material. If you get average/useless 6 stars (Example: Wingfred). Don’t consider power up them to use them as temporary hero, simply keep them and then use it for awakening later
